Museum MACAN

Museum MACAN is the first contemporary art museum in Jakarta, Indonesia dedicated to supporting interdisciplinary education and cultural exchange. Met Studio were approached to design and deliver the art museum‘s design and spatial masterplanning to showcase the wonderful collection of paintings, sculpture, film and other forms of art. Being a beacon of art to a new audience the gallery design needed a conceptual edge. Gallery wraps provided the abstract message of unveiling the art whilst also providing thematic spaces in a large gallery space.

As Project Lead during the delivery stages, focus was in the detailed design and delivery of the space. On the arrival of a new museum director there was opportunity to create more thematic and community led learning in a revisit to the design and masterplan.
